Meet My Cat

Thursday February 20th, 2014

If you’d ask me if I was a dog or a cat person, I wouldn’t be able to answer. I love all animals. Yes, including rodents and reptiles. And picking one species seems impossible to me.

I’ve had cats and dogs and both have their charms. But before I go into my entire pet history I wanted to introduce you guys to my cat.
This is him. Well, he used to be a ‘him’, now he’s more of an ‘it’. He has no name. In the process of naming him I came up with a dozen names. Since no one actually picked one, he remained nameless. But he does respond to ‘poes’ (Dutch for kitty).

They say cats have 9 lives. Well, this one must be a super saiyan cat ‘cause he’s been to hell and back and still lives to meow the tale.

There’s a poultry farmer in our neighborhood. He likes to discard his slaughter waste by throwing it in the middle of a field. Since this attracts cats and rodents, he sprinkles the pile with rat poison. I can’t even count how many times my cat came home drugged.

But last time he came home with a fox trap/clamp stuck to his paw. He had been missing for a few days and he tried to walk home with the (one pound heavy) thing attached to one of his front paws. He ripped the fur and flesh clear off his paw trying to do so. After a couple of weeks of medication and recovery he’s walking on it again. He only limps again when he wants food or out. Little manipulative prickless prick.

He might play dumb. But he’s intelligent to know that he’ll get food if he listens. He’ll sit (“zit”) and lies down (“ga eens liggen”) on command.
